Keepin' Me Humble

A wonderful event for 4-5 year olds in my area is something called, "Safety Town".  Children learn fire, gun, bus, etc. safety.  For four days they spend two hours learning all about safety.  Then they have this adorable "Safety Town" Graduation.  I got there early and sat right in the front row, where my son beamed at me from his spot just in front of me...in front of an entire audience of parents.  I was so proud...too proud.  He sang with enthusiasm, smiled with glee, glowed with his own pride in having his Momma and sisters watching him...then he flipped me the bird.  In front of EVERYONE.  He held it there for, like, three LONG seconds.  Then he brought his hand back down to examine, giving his fingers the, "That's not right" look and shifted his fingers around with his other hand until he brought it back up giving me the "I Love You" sign.  Ahhh...much better.  But no, my girlfriend beside me is laughing so hard she has tears....my girlfriend and her husband on the other side of her are laughing.  I can't look behind me...I can't laugh too much, don't want him to think he should do it again....Yes, my children like to keep my pride in check.  The good news is...he didn't even know what he had done.  The bad news is...well, I got embarassed, but I'll live.  I for sure, will never, ever, ever...forget Safety Town, Summer of 2006.

I've been working hard and lobbying Congress this summer in attempt to get them to add a couple of hours to each day.  I'm pretty sure it's close to going through.

Seriously, though, can you believe it's already halfway through the summer?  Remember how I said that things would "CLEAR UP" and that I'd be "MORE ON TOP OF THINGS?"  Yeah, I remember that too.  I'm still trying to make that happen.  Maybe I need some sort of medication to help me make it happen?  Or maybe it's just too hard to be on top of EVERYTHING when you have three kids and a busy business.  And are trying to be a writer.  And are a bit of a perfectionist.  And obsessive compulsive.  With an addictive personality.  I'm quite the package, you see.

I've found someone to help me with the kiddos every now and then through the summer, for a pretty decent price, I think.  My mom helps me out every chance she gets, too.  I have the best mom in the universe.  LOVE her.

Today we celebrated our aunt & uncle's 50th Wedding Anniversary.  Think of that.  50 Years of marriage.  I've been married for 12 years, which has flown by...I got married at the age of 20.  12 years has got NOTHING on the big 5-0.  The cool thing is, they were our ages when they got married, so they're 70 now.  They look fantastic, they are very active, they are full of life, love and zest.  I wanna be them when I grow up.

Summertime

Summer is here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And with it, a little bit lighter of a schedule for my family.  Work is crazy as ever, but I find the time...sometimes I have to get up at 4:30 am, and other times I stay up until 1:00 am.  Soon my schedule will have fewer wrinkles and I'll be more on top of things.  Writing has still taken a back seat to my business, but being that this is our busy season, what can I expect?  Occasionally we talk about hirinig someone for my office, but I've got this super-freak control issue and my mind goes, "Why hire someone and pay them for what I can do myself?"  Thoughts like that float around in my head.  We'll see what happens.  Someday I'd like to write full time.

I had to stop at Target today.  Just after we had paid and were getting ready to leave, my son looked at the young man who was helping us and loudly voiced, "I JUST FARTED."  Heavens, I was soooo embarassed, it was as if I, MYSELF, had farted.  The nice young man got a kick out of it - so did the gal at the ClubWed machine and the other teller next to us and another customer.  Ah, what can you do?  Little boys.

My oldest had her first, ever softball game yesterday.  She did excellent, if you ask her sports-challenged mother.  She got to bat twice, didn't strike out at all, made it to home one time, and played not only catcher, but third base!  It was fun to watch and cheer.  I kept giving her the thumbs up and she thought I was giving her the pointer-scolding finger.  LOL!  I was explaining to her dad, who couldn't make the game, that she got to play catcher.  I said it just like that...to which my husband had to laugh and tell me, "In Minnesota we say, "ketcher". (spelled to how it sounded coming out of his mouth)  I said, "Like KETCHUP?", to which he said, yes.  I think he's on crack.  Or craving french fries.

I am in a mother-daughter book club with my middle girlie.  We are soooooo excited about it!  The first book we read was Frecklejuice, which we read in one sitting on my bed.  We have a whole bunch of books waiting to be read.  She's an awesome reader and speller.  Makes her Momma proud.

Off to work!

Wow, Spring hits and suddenly work blooms!  My business has gotten so busy that I've had time for little else, lately.  Which is a good thing, really...it's just one of those things that leaves less time for other things!   Things like...writing?  Yep.  I'm stalled at 21,961 words.  Didn't make my Easter goal, and haven't been writing daily like I'd planned.  I'm not going to let that get me down, though ~ just have to make adjustments, is all.

Other things have included a sinus infection (again...I seem to be prone to them, especially once my allergies have flared up) a cold that's been hitting members of my family hard, and that's about it!  My children have had choir concerts, school functions picking up now that the year is gearing up for the big finale, and extra practices for their activities.

Boika said the other day; "Mom!  How did you do that?" I was driving and my mind was off on to do lists and such...  I said, "Do what?" He answered that I had gotten through three green lights in a row!  "Good job MOM!"   And he's four.  Just like a male, eh?  Already trying to hit the green lights, paying close attention to it...

Naughty Girl the other day (the oldest) got all dressed up to go to Grandma's house.  Dangle earrings, hair swept up in a clip with the cute little flip thing going on, new sandals, etc..  She made the comment, "I feel like a teenager!"  She looked like one too!

And the little Boos...I have hot pink sticky notes all over my desk right now.  They all say things like, "Dear Mom, I love you so much.  And you help me with everything.  I am so lucky to have a mom like you.  I would cry if you were not my mom.  Please write back to me please?  I love you so much mom and I want you to always know that."  Another says, "Everybody loves MOMS!"  and "YOU ROCK!"    Of course I wrote back!  And left all of the notes up.  DH has some on his desk as well.

My middle child likes to be all sweet and write notes saying how much she LOVES her family.  So sweet.  One time it showed her true feelings to her then-three year old brother.  "I love my whole family.  Even my brother".    She recently won her school spelling bee for her class and moved on to the district spelling bee.  She didn't make it into the top three there, and being the competitive spirit that she is, that bothered her.  We assured her what a WONDERFUL job she had done and what a great thing, to have made it that far.  We celebrated with lunch out and she got over it.

Word count tonight ~ 10,659.  Plugging away slowly but surely.

My oldest just submitted a story that she wrote to Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul!  Her first ever submission!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVE James Blunt!!!!!!!! Plus we went to The Shaggy Dog with Tim Allen over the weekend.  We loved it and I recommend it!  Great family show.  My son was soooo excited to see the dog say, "To infinity...and BEYOND".  Poor little guy was in the bathroom when he said it.
